Empire Of Rust 164 – Holding On To Empty Space

Lost in the freezing void of Harmonium space, the crew fights to survive the aftermath of the catastrophic collision that destroyed their ship. With debris, failing systems, and drifting survivors scattered across the darkness, every second becomes a race against momentum, oxygen, and distance. One by one, the crew manages to regroup, pulling the Harmonium ambassadors and each other back from the edge. For a brief moment, it almost feels like they might actually make it. Then Spindrift shoots a missile. What follows is immediate chaos. The detonation tears through the debris field and sends everyone spiraling away from each other once again—scattered across the void with damaged systems, broken comms, and rapidly shrinking chances of rescue. The cold between stars suddenly feels much larger.

What is the Empire Of Rust Podcast?

TransMissions Podcast Network presents: the world’s first and only Transformers RPG actual play podcast! Conceived, developed, and run by TransMissions Podcast producer and editor Michael Ordway (@minervion), this podcast combines the tabletop role playing game (RPG) experience (think Dungeons and Dragons) with the setting, universe, and characters of the Transformers into an actual play podcast. Each episode records the gaming sessions as the player characters experience the adventures planned and designed by the game master (GM). The RPG system being used is based on Starfinder, a sci-fi variant of Pathfinder, combined with elements of the Transformers-themed Mechamorphosis d20 system (more info here).

Empire of Rust takes place in the IDW Comics Transformers Universe that ran from 2005 to 2018. It is set at the beginning of the “First Strike” storyline that was published in 2017. But while the starting point is based on the events of the first issue of First Strike – where Earth is being inducted into the Cybertronian Council of Worlds – the story of Empire of Rust will be very different. So if you’ve read the comics, don’t think you know what’s going to happen!

The players have all created original Transformer characters to take part in this adventure, but they’re sure to encounter some familiar faces in their adventures on Cybertron, and beyond.
